10.00am Learning from looking – making the most of observations
Lisa Bradbury. There is a strong body of evidence that shows the importance of learning from observing others - as well as being observed. Many trainees and NQTs fail to get the most out of observation so in this session we will explore how best to scaffold the use of observations by using carefully designed tools that ensures a focused and reflective learning experience occurs.

Stephen Cormell. We chose to go it alone, to deliver our ITT without university participation. This is about our story so far, about our vision and how it arose, our pitfalls and how we have worked around them.

 

10.45am Recruitment into School Direct
Martin Husbands.  Explaining strategies employed to market and promote School Direct provision; and methods undertaken to recruit effectively across the programme.

 

11.15am What's the point of SKE?

Ellie Agrebi. Informal session on subject knowledge enhancement, what it is; who it's for; how it's used; why it works. Background and explanations of the SKE processes will be included and the chance to ask any SKE questions.

 

11.45am Event Management: Top Tips and Potential Pitfalls

Steve Elliot. Running events is one of the most impactful marketing activities providing you with a unique opportunity to engage face to face with potential trainees.  But creating and managing an event isn't always as straightforward as it might appear. Some of the tricks of the trade to ensure your events deliver the results you need.

1.15: Drop In Session 1: Teaching - What the books don't tell you!
Delivered by Sabrina Sacco, @TheJEducator, this session will help put your mind at rest about those little questions you may have in your head.  Teaching and the teaching profession itself is much more that the pedagogy we read about in books.  Come and listen to a light-hearted sssion full of practical hints and tips of how to succeed in teaching.

 

1.45: Drop In Session 2: Meet the Warwick University Tutor
Delivered by Georgina Newton, the talk will outline the School Direct provision for the Warwick Partnership.  Covering the person specification, required experience and variety of training routes available.  Looking at the postgraduate nature of the Masters study and an opportunity to ask questions about the limited places on an "assessment only" pilot starting in Sept 2015.
 

2.15: Drop In Session 3: UCAS How to Apply to UCAS Teacher Training

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) is the organisation which processes postgraduate teacher training applications to school and higher education based trianing programmes through the UCAS Teacher Training Scheme (UTT). The presentation will explain the UTT application process and aims to debunk some common myths about applying to teacher training.

Nigel is a Recruitment Advisor on the DfE's Premier Plus programme helping candidates apply for teacher training in the priority Secondary subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Maths, MFL D&T and Computing

Martin is Head of School Direct at Newman University.  Having worked previously in a number of roles across a range of secondary schools, Martin currently works to establish, consolidate and develop partnerships and engage with schools and colleagues over the effective recruitment and delivery of the School Direct programme.

Fiona has worked in the education sector for aover a decade and currently works as the National Partnership Manager at UCAS, which includes responsibility for the UCAS Teacher Training Market and liaison with the National Colleg of Teaching and Leadership.

 

Sabrina is an outstanding teacher and a Teaching and Learning Champion based in South Warwickshire.  She is passionate about her profession and has 10 years experience of teaching and mentoring trrainee teachers.  Her teaching focus is in raising the achievement of disengaged students in an area in which she is currently conducting action research. Stephen has coordinated initial teacher training at the Streetly Academy since 2001, where he was Head of Religious Education for 19 years, which he still teaches.  He has worked with many HEIs before leading the Sutton Park SCITT.

Steve is one of the founding Directors of Blackberry Productions the event management agency running the NCTL Train to Teach events.  Steve has over 20 years' experience running, designing and delivering a wide range of events with specific experience of engaging education sector audiences.

Georgina is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Secondary Team at the Centre for Professional Education, Warwick University.  She has been an active contributor to a range of CPD provisions across a number of disciplines working on School Improvement Panels looking at Assessment, Community Liaison, Student Support and Deep Learning. She has produced research papers in the areas of Mentoring and Coaching and Assessment and Learning, with academic papers presented at International Educational conference Edulearn Barcelona in spring 2014.

Ellie manages implementation of SKE in-year for NCTL, including communications, products, the course directory, insight and feedback, as well as many ad hoc requests.  She joined DfE in 2014.  Elllie lives near St  Helens and has a son who will start secondary school next year.

Lisa is CUREE’s Principal Professional Learning Manager and leads on the planning and facilitation of a range of evidence based CPD and professional learning programmes. She designs bespoke programmes for schools and colleges focusing on building effective learning environments through developing skills in coaching and mentoring, evaluation and developing enquiry based approaches drawing on high leverage strategies and supporting tools and frameworks.
